Unlucky Laura - Epilogue
Carrie and Terry sat in the new dorm room they shared. Terry's arms had healed long ago, as had Carrie's ankle. The ankle remained weak, however, and was prone to sprains, such as the one Carrie had suffered just a moment ago, coming up the stairs after dinner. Terry had helped Carrie limp back to the room, and was now gently removing her sneaker and sock.
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yeah. Go ahead," Carrie replied.
Terry still wasn't sure why her girlfriend got off on pain, but she wasn't the type to object to anything done between consenting adults. She ran her hands across the beautiful bare foot, and began to massage the ankle, first gent

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 21
The days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months that Laura spent staring at the ceiling over her hospital bed. Craig continued to visit her regularly, sometimes alone, sometimes with Carrie and Terry. But he always came when he could, at least three or four times a week. Laura could only imagine how boring the visits were for him, sitting around, talking to a big Laura-shaped hunk of plaster. But he never seemed to mind.
After the first six weeks or so, the cast covering her fingers and toes was trimmed away, giving Laura something to wiggle, making the immobility a bit less maddening. The rest of the cast would be on for a few m

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 20
LOCAL WOMAN INJURED IN BUS ACCIDENT
FAIRVIEW - A local woman was injured yesterday when her wheelchair rolled into traffic and was struck by a school bus.
Laura Wingfield, 18, had been confined to a wheelchair after sustaining several broken bones in a previous accident. Wingfield was with friends yesterday when her wheelchair began to roll down Main Street hill. According to eyewitness accounts, the wheelchair flipped over after striking a...
Carrie tossed aside the newspaper, sickened by the story recounting the accident she had witnessed just the other day. She still felt responsible; it was her tickling that had caused Laura to shift her

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 19
For a moment Laura and her three friends stared at each other in disbelief. The hill Main Street sat on wasn't very steep. But it didn't need to be, Laura soon realised. As the chair started to pick up momentum, she shifted in her seat, unable to stand up, or even to turn around and see where she was headed. The casts held her body immobile and the neck brace forced her to continue to stare straight ahead.
Craig, Terry and Carrie watched in shock as Laura began to roll away. A second later, Craig started running, followed shortly by the girls.
But it was no use. Laura's speed was already increasing. The hill, which never seemed very steep to

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 18
Laura felt a lot better after she and Craig straightened things out. The whole cast fetish thing was odd, yes, but didn't really bother her anymore. As long as she knew Craig loved her, and would never hurt her, she could accept it.
Craig visited her every day after they made up. Every day, at least, until her discharge the following Tuesday. Laura had already accepted that she wouldn't be going back to school this semester; it was already early November now, and she would be in the casts until at least mid-December, and with all that plaster hampering her movement, keeping up with classes would be impossible. She wasn't thrilled that she wou

Laura fidgeted a bit, wishing she could do something about the itching inside the casts. It had been bad enough when she only had to deal with one or two casted limbs. But now, with about three-quarters of her body covered in plaster, it was almost unbearable.
But focusing on the itching helped her take her mind off of her nervousness. Craig would be visiting today; Laura had made a brief phone call to him that morning (with a nurse's help) but, given the tension that still existed between them, wasn't quite sure how she would say all that she wanted to say when they were face to face...
But suddenly it was too late; she saw Craig stick his h

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 16
For the next week, Laura spent a lot of time thinking about her conversation with Craig. One particular moment she replayed in her head several times, even as her arm, leg and neck were removed from traction in preparation for an afternoon of casting.
As the stockinette was pulled over her arm and torso for the shoulder spica, she thought of one of the last things Craig had said to her: he loved her. She had never had a boy say that he loved her before. She had already gotten herself used to the possibility that she never would.
Of course, she thought, as rolls of padding were applied to her right arm, lots of boys said stuff like that withou

"Laura? Laura, what's wrong?"
Laura could hear Terry's concerned voice, but didn't bother to answer. The rush of emotions inside of her was too intense to formulate a coherent sentence.
"Does it...does it hurt a lot?" Terry continued uncertainly.
Laura started to shake her head, forgetting about the traction her neck was in, and winced as she felt pain shoot through her neck. As she sobbed, she tried to speak.
"I... I... dreamt... or... I mean... in high school... I... I..."
"Shhh..." Terry whispered, wiping the tears from Laura's eyes with a tissue. "It's OK. Just calm down and breathe."
"Mmmm'f mmmmm mmff mmm?" Jen asked.
"Yeah, she's fine,

As Laura closed her eyes, she wiggled the toes of her unbroken foot, and rotated her ankle a bit. It was a weird feeling, being able to move her foot and ankle and not her knee. She was used to wearing casts, of course, but they had always reached down to the base of her toes, allowing her to wiggle them, but leaving her ankle immobile, and sometimes her knee, depending on how high the cast went. Having her entire foot bare was a nice change; without having her foot and ankle confined in plaster, she could almost forget that the leg was in a cast at all.
Almost.
Anyway, it was certainly an improvement from the casts she usually had on this le

Unlucky Laura - Chapter 13
Laura could her her new roommate moaning and whimpering in pain as she was wheeled in by two orderlies and transferred to the empty bed to Laura's left. Unable to move her head because of the cervical traction, Laura watched out of the corner of her eye as her roommate, a slim, pale girl with short dark hair, about her age, had her right leg placed in traction. Laura couldn't see well enough to be able to make out the details of the system of ropes, weights and pulleys, but was familiar enough with traction from her own experience that she knew how much pain the girl was experiencing as Dr. Richards attached the apparatus to the metal pins in
