Memories of Meadowbrook - Chapter 16

Ros asked for a minute to speak to her sister privately and the staff obliged. She asked about Lara, assuming correctly that Suzi had found her and knew more. Upon hearing what her sister had done and how seriously injured Lara was, Ros was furious and scathingly spat her fury in a harsh diatribe to that extent. Suzi was defensive and took the stance that she had done everything because she is on Ros' side and critically referred to her as ungrateful before storming away and saying that she would come back with the wheelchair when she felt like it.

On her way out, Suzi managed to ask the doctor in a sincere voice covering up her underlying anger if he could do a favour for her sister. Suzi continued, explaining that she went to Meadowbrook school and a cast to match the house colours would cheer her up. This was a form of revenge since Suzi knew that Ros preferred simple, plain colours. She created more havoc by popping her head into the X-ray viewing room and said that the doctor needed the Croft films for review and that she didn't mind taking them since it was so busy. As she walked back toward Ros' exam room, she used her fingernail and scratched the sticker with the patient's name off of the films and set them down on the cart for the cast tech after amending the order from DLLC to DLLC w/ SB by simply checking a box. Now she could go home for the wheelchair and return to see if her naughty surprise had worked. Ros wouldn't blame her because she had supposedly left right away. It was another perfectly devious plan.

When the tech entered her room, he greeted Ros politely and opened the file on the cart. He commented on the severity of her breaks and noted that she must have quite a pain tolerance. Not realizing how it would come across, she replied that she had broken many bones. She, of course, was referencing her lifelong injury history. The comment made sense to the tech as though she meant that she had broken many bones in her legs, having seen Lara's x-rays thanks to Suzi. It made the order for a pair of long leg casts much more understandable and he began to prepare the materials.

Ros lay back and closed her eyes. All the activity that day had worn on her and the casting process was quite soothing. She fell asleep before the tech had completed the padding and didn't even notice that yellow and red stripes befitting the uniform tie pattern would cover her from toe to thigh on both legs. Nor did she realise that a wooden dowel was being casted between her ankles and would separate her legs at shoulder width for the duration.

She awoke and was startled by what she saw. It would have been equally as unsettling had she seen the look that came across her sister's face while sitting at home thinking about Ros and making her wait as punishment for not appreciating that Suzi had joined Ros' side against Lara.
