About two weeks after her release from the hospital, Claire was sitting in her wheelchair in her business management class. Her casted legs rested in front of her, propped up by the leg rest and a set of pillows. Even after two weeks, her poor broken legs still ached awfully. In order to try to gain some form of relief, Claire gently lifted one of her casted legs and adjusted the pillow underneath.
This was her first day back on campus, having arrived back at her dormitory the night before. Upon arrival most of the squad had welcomed her cheerfully. Many of the other girls who had been a part of the pyramid were also in casts, although not as extreme as Claire. Yumi felt awful about what happened, sitting next to Claire and apologising over and over as she sympathetically rubbed Claire’s poor, aching toes.

It was the fourth quarter of the football game, and so far everything had gone perfectly for Claire. She had nailed every stunt, her bases had been amazing, and the whole crowd marvelled at the skill of the university’s top flier. After landing yet another backflip, the crowd cheered and Claire looked over to her friend Kaori and smiled. Kaori smiled back, but Claire noticed her expression seemed a bit pained and she was readjusting one of the two black ankle braces Kaori wore on both feet since the season started. One of the first things Claire noticed when she had first joined the squad was that Yumi, Kaori, and Caro, the three senior captains all wore ankle braces on both feet. Now Claire understood why. Thoughts of the curse returned to her.
“I guess Kaori’s ankles still hurt pretty badly even after a year of recovery… Those must have been some bad injuries last season.”
